Latin America is home to some of the world's most vibrant live and broadcast cultures. From Carnival huge street events and broadcasts reaching tens of millions of viewers, to stadium concerts attracting 100,000 fans, to mega-churches serving hundreds of thousands of worshippers each week — professional wireless audio is a critical enabler of everyday Latin American life expressions.
Yet the frequencies that make all of this possible are under growing pressure. Without active engagement, the professionals who depend on this spectrum to make all these events happen risk being left out of the policy decisions that will define the next decade of wireless infrastructure.
WMSA Latin America is bringing together wireless audio stakeholders, and ensuring that those who understand operations on the ground — the RF coordinators, sound engineers, and broadcast technicians — have a seat at the decision-making table.
Our Mission & Vision
WMSA Latin America is dedicated to sustaining and advancing access to spectrum resources that power the region's cultural and professional life.
We work to:
Champion wireless audio access to spectrum for broadcast, live events, houses of worship, theatre, corporate events, and education.
Support RF coordinators, sound engineers, and wireless audio professionals across the region.
Develop a recognised Latin American advocacy and knowledge platform.
Engage with national regulators (ANATEL, IFT, SUBTEL, ENACOM and others) and international bodies to represent audio PMSE interests.
Our vision is clear: a unified Latin American voice for audio PMSE and professional RF expertise — ensuring that culture, events, worship, and broadcasting continue to thrive through reliable wireless operations.
Who Depends on This Spectrum?
Professional wireless audio serves an extraordinarily diverse community across Latin America. Each sector has distinct needs — but all share a common dependency on stable, well-managed UHF frequencies:
Stadium concerts & festivals — Events like Rock in Rio or Lollapalooza Argentina deploy hundreds of simultaneous wireless channels. Every channel needs a clean, stable frequency.
Broadcast & television — Live TV, from Carnival coverage to telenovela production or sports, depends on wireless microphones and Electronic News Gathering (ENG) systems in UHF. Any disruption is immediately visible on air.
Houses of worship — Tens of thousands of churches and evangelical congregations across the region operate permanent wireless audio systems, often with large ensembles and multiple services per week. This is the single largest user segment by volume.
Corporate & conferencing — International summits, government sessions, and executive events increasingly depend on professional-grade wireless infrastructure.
Theatre & performing arts — From São Paulo's theatre scene to national ballet and opera, wireless audio is essential — including assistive listening systems for accessibility.
Education & institutions — Universities and public institutions rely on permanent wireless installations for lectures, ceremonies, and public address.
Our Strategic Pillars
1. Advocacy
We build coherent regional positions for national and international spectrum consultations, engage with CITEL (the Americas' ITU preparatory body), and develop official WMSA Latin America positions and white papers. We build alliances with cultural institutions, broadcasters, and professional associations.
Goal: Ensure spectrum policy decisions across Latin America reflect operational reality and the wireless audio needs.
2. Engagement
WMSA Latin America connects professionals through workshops, webinars, national events, and a growing regional network. Digital platforms support cross-border collaboration, while outreach expands toward festivals, venues, broadcasters, and touring productions.
Goal: Build a visible, active, and connected RF community across the region.
Our Long-Term Vision
WMSA Latin America aims to become:
The authoritative and unified Latin American voice for audio PMSE.
A key champion of sustainable and long-term spectrum access for the creative and cultural economy.
A reference organisation for RF expertise across the region.
A contributor to Latin America's cultural and creative strength through reliable wireless audio infrastructure.
Reliable spectrum access is not only a technical requirement for wireless audio — it is the heartbeat of Latin American culture, creativity, and community life.
